Serena Williams Shows True Colors, Loses Match Because She Threatened Line Judge!
Posted Under: Uncategorized
Wow, I’m shocked! I’ve always thought Serena Williams is extremely arrogant and a bad advertisement for women’s tennis, and she finally showed her true colors tonight. After being outplayed for most of the match by Kim Clijsters, who quit tennis for three years and gave birth, she threatened a line judge after after being called for a foot fault the point before match point. She was then given a point penalty after she was already warned during the match for racquet abuse, which of course means that she lost the match. After being foot faulted, Wlliams apparently told the line judge that she would ’shove her racquet down her throat’! She also apparently told the line judge that she would kill her. I am now utterly appalled and disgusted.

Serena Williams has shown the world tonight what I have always known she is. It was impossible to hear what Williams said, but she was waving her racquet in a very threatening way at the line judge. The umpire then asked the line judge to come to the chair and tell her what happened. Then you could hear on the microphone Williams saying that she did not say that she would kill the line judge. So that is pretty much a dead give away. Whatever she said it was something very threatening and she should not be allowed to get away with this. This is utterly unacceptable behaviour and terrible for tennis. Williams should be banned from tennis! I am so disgusted now I don’t even know what to tell you. No one will ever doubt what kind of person Williams is ever again.
In a way I’m glad she did this because everyone knows what I have always known now. This is one of the reasons I don’t like women’s tennis. How can someone who is supposed to be the best of her generation lose to someone who just came back from a three year break from tennis? Imagine that happening in men’s tennis! Three years out of the men’s game and your career if over. Out. Done. What does that say about the depth and competition in women’s tennis? Serena is supposed to be a role model and she does this?! Can you imagine Roger saying something like that to a line judge? I’m so disgusted now I can’t even write any further.
Conclusion: Serena Williams is a disgrace for tennis and should be banned from the sport!
Video: Serena Williams calls Justine Henin, who happens to be one of the best ambassadors for women’s tennis ever, a bitch.
Update: Here is the incident. On the angle they show it is hard to see, but it definitely looks like a foot fault to me. It doesn’t matter if it is 1mm or whatever. A foot fault is a foot fault. Period. The latest is that Williams told the line judge that ’she would shove this f**king ball down her throat!’
On a lighter note: This is how to do it properly
What Williams really said: “If I could, I would take this … ball and shove it down your … throat and kill you,”

I agree. I remember the first time I saw the Williams’ sisters win years ago and they made such a show about winning…so very unsportswoman like, that I stopped watching women’s tennis altogether. Tonight, we stumbled upon this match on tv and really enjoyed women’s tennis for the first time since the sisters began their reign of celebrity.
I was shocked that anyone would treat a person like that…I mean yelling at someone like that in front of the world. That is so embarrassing! Serena should be embarrassed…but instead there was footage of her laughing it up with her sister. I guess when some people get a lot of money and celebrity they don’t care about the real things anymore. Really just sad. I’d always kind of hoped I’d been wrong about the sisters…that they would adjust and become more dignified and cool…instead of acting like she’s on steroids. God bless them all!
I thought Kim played really well. I will be following her career from now on. She’s good.

I agree about Kim. I just wish she didnt leave the sport for 3 years and allowed Williams to dominate tennis and get so much false confidence.

Kim had only won one GS before retirement and she reguarly got owned by the ‘Sistaz’ so I don’t think she would have stopped them dominating, I think she is on a hot streak because of her return but I don’t expect it to last.
If you want to find the problem it was Henin’s retirement and Sharapovas injury. Imagine if Federer has retired in Mid-2007 and then Nadal had a genuine career threatening injury taking him out for 6 months and leaving him half the player he was before after. Djoko and Murray would be multiple GS champions! The women’s game suffered a catstrophic blow with Henin leaving and the Shara injury. Clijsters was never one of the major players.

lol I thought it was hilarious. True colors? This whole thing is getting blown out of proportion. Oh no Serena has a temper! Big deal. And banned from the sport? Well my oh my we might as well ban all the Tennis players that throw a temper tantrum. Get over it. Im not a Serena fan as Im sure you are not either, but why makes this into some frenzy when it really is not a big deal.

How can you say this is not a big deal? You think it would be ok if Roger did that? What does that do to the image of tennis when the best player of her era does that? You may think it was funny but it is a serious matter…
Ps. Just because this is womens tennis doesnt mean it should get overlooked you know. If women get equal prize money they should be just as responsible as men.

This is much worse than just losing her temper. She is the main ambassedor for female tennis and she threatens to kill people in front of the whle world. One word-DISGRACE.

Boy. I just saw the highlights and can’t believe she said that. ESPN showed her press conference and she was real casual about the comments. She said that she and the lineswoman didn’t hear each other’s comments. I know they will talk about this one for some time to come. ESPN also talked about other incidents (here in America) about athletes being unsportsmanlike. If you can’t do the basic aspects of sportsmanship than why be in sports? For the fame? For the money? Serena needs a reality check. But it seems like (from what I’ve seen on other blogs, she has support) I admit, it was funny.

i just can’t believe this. no, not the outburst. i’ve watched the whole tournament and was looking forward to this matchup in particular; but, for whatever reason, it was not televised. instead, it was ncis or cold case or whatever. trying to find the truth out there as to what really was said. please post where you got your “conformation”. also, what i’m finding most interesting are the outbursts from everyone. talk about needing to get a grip.

I have hated the Williamses since the beginning:
1. the grunting
2. the ugly tennis
3. the arrogance (remember they once proposed to enter the ATP men’s tour?)
4. ugly physique
Damn them, especially Serena. The fact that although the Williamses were out for several years and dominate again easily shows the women’s game has stagnated. Since the Williamses era, there’s only one worth watching: Justine Henin. Pity she’s out now. The rest… if I ever watch, I only watch in the hopes they can take out those Williamses… often it ends in disappointment. I am at the point I don’t care anymore about women’s game right now … or maybe I’ll start to care when the Williamses lose out.

I couldnt agree more. I cant stand them for the same reasons you mentioned. They also said once they can beat ATP players after which Karsten Braasch, who was ranked somehwere in the 300’s at the time, beat them 6-2 and 6-1 respectively. Apparently Braasch had some beers before he played against them as well. I also agree what you say about the womens game. I liked Henin and im glad Clijsters is back to save the womens game. The Williams never had any decent competition.

i think its funny. when guys throw fits and outbursts it is perfectly fine but win the serena did it. people hate her. And what did venus have to do with it? nothing at all. i like venus and always will. Venus is a nice girl
[Reply]
I was appalled at Serena’s outburst. And further with the crap she pulled in the press conference. She’s not even afraid of losing sponsors. If I were her sponsors – Nike, Wilson – etc…I’d run for the hills – fire her ass!
Now Justine – I’ve like’d her play – but I still have a bad taste in my mouth with her piss poor decision to QUIT the match with Amilee Maurismo in the Australian – she even said “I can’t possibly come back and win – so why continue when I don’t feel well.”
You would not see that of the greats in mens tennis. I’ve seen Aggasi play in total agony to finish a match just to allow his opponent to feel the elation of the win. No longer a fan of Justine.
To summarize – NEVER – NEVER – EVER am I going to support, watch or root for Serena – I will cheer every loss she has till she completely abdicates herself from being such a spoiled rotten bitch.

Most of these proclaimed ‘celebrity’ Jehovah’s Witnesses are the same.
They use the name ‘Jehovah’ to their own shame and in disrespect of the God they claim to serve, (though many are not actually baptised Witnesses – aka Michael Jackson).
Anyone can call themselves anything but as Jesus said, “by their fruits you will no them”.

Replays showed it was NOT a foot fault so thats one erroneous statement by you. This kind of display is heralded in mens tennis. OR … John McEnroe setting the bar for bad behavior in tennis matches during the 1970s and take a look at him in at 48 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkq6ZsYqd5o
OR … Jimmy Connors taking the award for being the most foul-mouthed player in the history of professional tennis
OR … Andre Agassi, criticized for his on-court behavior at the Olympics, walking to his court-side chair and smashing his racket on the ground. His actions went unpunished by the umpire. He should have had a point penalty for that, but was he?… NO!
So what does this tell you hate bloggers?
The oppressors hold a higher standard for Black people then for your own. For a Black female, it’s a “Medusa” moment, but if an abusive White male, he’s just “PASSIONATE.”

You keep evading the issue. Serena lives a charmed life. She is anything but oppressed. If you were talking about a two year old child in Africa starving from a lack of food you would have a point. But in trying to excuse the behaviour of someone who lives a charmed life and gets paid the same as her male counterparts, even though she would lose 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 to them, you are really just reflecting poorly upon yourself.
[Reply]
Hey Ru-an and everybody,
.
white male i can’t know what that’s like, but the press (esp in the US) treats her completely different then they would others. yes, she plays the race card a bit too often, but it must be tough being treated like that by most of the nation.
So i can tell things are really getting heated up here
First of all – Serena’s outburst was appalling. Definitely.
But this also goes to the outburst that have been written up here! Besides the swear words – those comments about her physic are really uncalled for. is that’s what it’s about? I don’t think so (come on ru-an, you shouldn’t affirm this!!) It’s so easy to be nasty behind a computer, let’s not go there – that’s no better then what Serena did.
The difference is she did it in front of the whole world. Two points about this: on the one hand, if you’re a big star like Serena is, you should know you’re a role model, and try and behave accordingly. And she failed big time on this. On the other hand: we ALL make mistakes, and have to apologize and learn and move on. And on that, Serena does get a lot more crap over her because of who she is – tough, black and a woman. As a not-so-tough
So thank you Jennifer for the examples of white men who’ve behaved as appalling as Serena last night – let’s treat everyone the same!
Ru-an, I’m really enjoying your blog, and hope to be following it for a long time, but this post has made me feel bad. I understand your disgust by what happened, but let’s not demonize an amazing sportswoman just because you don’t like her (or her looks!).
I’ve been able to read a lot of your older entries lately (since i’m in bed with mono nucleosis – i’m a true Fed follower! haha) and your insights and predictions are great and usually spot-on. And i’m sure we won’t be able to agree on everything/everyone, but i hope you can keep me as the fan of your blog that i’ve become!
And for the rest: Fed is gonna crush both guys today and tomorrow!! I promised myself to stop smoking if he does so another reason for him to do his best lol

I agree that what Serena did was wrong, but there is no denying tha she is being held to a different standard and race is a major part of this. This also explains why the crowd was rooting against her the entire match even thought this is the US Open, not the BELGIAN Open. Notice also the diffence in how Melanie Oduine was cheered vs Venus and Serena……really sad and a good reflection of our society unfortunately. By the way, I’m not black.

Serena should be banned from Tennis. She is a disgrace to America. America needs to set standards – good standards. America compromises too much. Serena you are a disgrace to your race and your President.
[Reply]
al you are wrong. When Venus and Serena started playing tennis – they were given a lot of publicity – the whole world knew of them. Oudin was not given any more publicity than they were – look back at history before you speak. Infact, Oudin was given too much publicity – but that’s because she is American. That is the American culture. Wozniacki did much more – do you see Belgium behaving like America. The world was laughing at America – calling Oudin cinderella – which was not fitting. How is she cinderella???? No. Serena and Venus were given a lot of publicity. This is not racial – do not make it racial. The crowd in New York always support Venus and Serena – but they were also glad to see some good tennis and so were rightfully cheering on Kim also.
[Reply]
There is such an umpiring inconsistency in all this, let’s go back to stage one of this…. the code violation for the racquet smash. This was not justified at all, based on all the racquet smashes in recent times with no code violations! These include the King himself, Safina, and in this tournament Gonzales, Soderling and Delpotero today. So what if they want to smash their racquets, its their property! My point here is no code violation was deserved for Serena’s racquet smash, the abuse of the linesperson would have surely only have been a warning.
I hardly think Federer distinguished himself with his “I don’t give a s**t “comment today, hardly King like behaviour. In saying that this is competitive sport, these things happen. So many comments about Serena are sadly based on her size, her strength and all in a very negative and nasty way.
