If you want to know me, follow me on Twitter: http://twitter.com/Federer_Blog

This is my first blog and i will use it to introduce myself. My name is Ru-an and i used to be a tennis player myself. I tried to make it as a pro but it is harder then you think! ) Anyhow i finished with tennis in 2007 and since then i’ve been working on the internet. I was doing a lot of affiliate marketing but kind of got tired of the whole sales thing and i have since found Squidoo where i can create my own lenses at no cost and with little effort. It is a lot of fun and i have made some lenses of Roger as well. If you want to check out Squidoo the link is on my blog, it’s really a nice community over there. Since i have started there i have enjoyed writing and so i’ve decided to start a blog on Federer. It’s also a good way to get traffic to my lenses.

The reason i’m starting a blog on Federer is because i like tennis of course but i also basically worship Federer. I like him as a player and as a person, so i respect him in all areas. He is a rare individual, both a great champion and a very popular human being. In my mind he is already the greatest tennis player of all time and it’s just a question of time before he breaks Sampras’ slam record. Whether he wins the French Open or not is not that relevant in my mind since the greatest clay courter of all time in Rafael Nadal is around. In this blog i will closely follow the remainder of Federer’s career and on as well as off the court. I hope this will become a very popular blog amongst not only Federer fans but tennis fans in general, as i love the whole game not just Federer and will keep track of it in my blog.

Update: Well there you go, not only did Federer now break Sampras’ grand slam record, but he also won the French Open. 2009 turned out to be a defining year in Roger’s career. By winning the French Open and Wimbledon, he has now achieved the two most important things in his career so far, which is to complete the career grand slam and to pass the all time grand slam record. I started this blog at a time when Federer had just had the worst year in 2008 since his rise to the top. So no one can ever accuse me of being a glory hunter on not a real fan. It’s been a great journey to see Roger coming back from basically being written off and achieving such great things, which includes taking back his number one spot in the rankings from Rafa.

I won’t lie, there were definitely times when I thought Roger may never fulfill his potential and it became hard to write this blog. It was just really disappointing, and I didn’t have all the facts either. But with the help of some fantastic fans of Roger, I stuck with it and when Roger finally got a Masters Series win again in Madrid, I sensed a turning point. Since that tournament Roger has not lost a match. It’s been a very rewarding journey so far, seeing someone you admire rising from the ashes and coming back in such devastating fashion. And the good part is that it is not over yet. The best part is ahead because as a fan I can relax and enjoy now, knowing that Roger has achieved the dizzy heights I always thought he had the potential to achieve. It’s now like the start of a new era.

He can go on to dominate the game almost like he did before, and win several more grand slam titles. It’s been an exciting ride but it’s far from over. This is where the fun starts!

About my writing: First of all English is not my first language. I am from South Africa and did study English at school, but again it’s not my first language. I don’t have much writing experience outside from high school and some university either. But I have always had an opinion about a lot of things and I like expressing it. I don’t write nearly as well as some other bloggers, but my goal is not really to write beautifully, although I’m sure that helps. I consider myself more of an analyst, rather then a storyteller. I like to analyze tennis matches and I think I am pretty good at reading the game. Of course having been a tennis player myself and following tennis basically my whole life helps. I see a lot of writers that write beautifully, but what they write is absolute rubbish.

If I had a choice between writing beautifully and writing the the truth, I would choose the latter. Another thing I’ve noticed about writers is that they write lies just to get a bigger following. Of course for most people it’s about that following which help them make more money, so they will write whatever people want to read. And the sad thing is that it seems people like to read rubbish. I know, makes no sense. Take for instance the 15 that was on Roger’s jacket after he had won his 15th grand slam title at Wimbledon. It caused a lot of controversy, yet it was something Nike initiated and apparently Roger didn’t even know about it. But for some reason people like this kind of gossip, and there is no shortage at all of writers that will give them something to gossip about.

I am not one of them. I’d rather have a few followers that are real people then have a huge following who likes to feast their eyes on trash. Integrity is important to me, more important then fame and fortune and all that stuff. In the end I have to live with myself and I intend to do so happily. I believe as a writer you can have a huge influence on people, especially on the internet where you can reach so many people. And I think it’s important to use that influence you have on people in a positive fashion. I know this is just a blog about Roger Federer, but still I think I can use it to inspire people, because that is what Roger does for me. I also started a spirituality blog, and with these two blogs I hope to reach a lot of people.

For too long the media has been writing lies and trash, and hopefully I can help put and end to that in my small way. But it’s not only the media’s fault, they just write what people want to read. So in fact people have to stop paying attention to all the rubbish and lies if it is to go away. Untill next time…
